Huge congratulations to the 2025 Harrier of the Year – Isla Pain!
Isla has had a phenomenal year, beginning in January where she came 2nd at the English Indoor Combined Events Champs. Isla then followed this up the following month with a bronze medal in the high jump at the U20 Indoor Championships. Isla’s high jump continued to shine as the season went on, she won Gloucestershire Champs Gold, Gloucestershire Schools Gold, South West Schools Gold and a fantastic Bronze at English Schools!
Her, arguably, best performance of the season though came at the English U20 Combined Events Champs where she won English Champs Gold and British Silver. Her overall points score broke the club record, she set PBs in the 100m hurdles, 200m, long jump, javelin and high jump. Her incredible high jump clearance of 1.82 was both a club U20 and senior record and earned her a call up to the British team to compete at the Euro U20 Championships.
Isla travelled to Finland and represented the club superbly producing her second best clearance when it mattered!
Isla wasn’t done there though she ended her season with two more heptathlons! Isla was selected to compete for England at the Home Countries Combined Events International and produced a convincing victory and finally Isla ended her season with Silver at the English Schools Combined Events Champs.
Throughout all of these events Isla also made time to compete at YDL events, scoring valuable points for the club. Concluding the year Isla is ranked 1st U20 in the High jump and 8th overall, 5th U20 in the Pentathlon, 6th in the Heptathlon, 18th in the 100mH and 27th in the shot put. Isla is an inspiration and role model for our athletes and continues to set a brilliant example. Isla is a hugely deserving winner and we know this is just the start for her!
