Running (adults, middle and long-distance)

Senior Endurance Group

The Senior Endurance Group is a mixed-distance, mixed-ability, and mixed-age adult group training for a variety of middle and long distance running events — all representing Cheltenham and County Harriers.

Training and Racing

In the summer, we have athletes training for and racing middle-distance track events from 800m up to 5000m. Athletes compete at local open meets and at the Midland Track and Field League.

In the winter, a key priority for the group is the cross country season. The men compete in the Birmingham Cross Country League, and the women in the Midlands Cross Country League. Everyone also takes part in the Gloucestershire Cross Country League and the Gloucestershire County Championships.

The Senior Endurance Group also has runners racing on the roads — taking part in local road races, the Midlands and National Road Relays, and training for spring marathons such as the London Marathon. Every year we also enter a number of teams in the Cotswold Way Relay which is a 10 person relay from Chipping Campden to Bath.
Alongside this, members often compete in related sports and disciplines, including triathlon, ultra running, trail and fell running, orienteering, and Hyrox.

Ability and atmosphere

There is a wide range of fitness, speed, and experience levels within the group. Our fastest runners complete 5km in under 17 minutes, while others run sub-30-minute 5km/parkruns.

Our training sessions are designed to suit a variety of speeds and abilities, and we hope you’ll find a supportive group to train with each week and improve together.

When and Where We Train

The group is based at the Prince of Wales Athletics Track in Cheltenham. Our main training session takes place on Tuesday evenings with sessions are led by experienced coaches.

We are a large and sociable running community, with runners in their 20s and 30s ranging right through to their 70s and 80s (with several Masters athletes who represent England). We also have strong links with the University of Gloucestershire, welcoming students to train with us during term time. We also have several wheelchair and para-athletes who are an integral part of our group.

Join Us

We’re a growing group with the shared motivation of improving our running and having fun. Whether you’re based in Cheltenham or the surrounding area, and whatever stage you’re at in your running journey, we’d love to hear from you. Together, we’ll help you build speed, endurance, and confidence.
