Upper YDL – 24/5/26

Rachel See May 29, 2026

The Bank Holiday weekend brought record-breaking weather and our athletes at the Upper Youth Development League Meeting in Yate battled well in the heat to secure a solid 2nd place finish of the 10 teams.

The 100m races saw some incredible Personal bests from Dan Jackson-Osbourne (11:17), Oscar Beattie (11:42) & Leo Malm-Fairbrother (11:46). Conrad Beard equalled his PB with 12:02 and Izzy Cook broke 13 seconds for the first time with an incredible 12:66.

Still on the track, Dan went on to record a PB in the 200m of 22:31 and both Imogen Miles and Molly Woodcock ran PBs of 27:07 and 27:17.

Oscar Beattie in his 3rd track event of the day ran a PB of 53:02 in the 400 and Jack Pennell took 2nd in the 3000m with 9.10:84 (PB); Harry Knight also ran a PB of 10.39:04.

In the hurdles Harriers claimed victories across the board in the 3 men’s races with Ollie Belbeck taking the U20 race in 16:30, Caleb the U18A in 14:07 (PB) and Sam Jeenes the U18B in 16:36. Megan Amey and Caitlin Smith secured a brace of 2nds with 16:37 and 19:27.

In the jumps we saw wins from Caleb and Leo in the Long Jump, PBs for Caleb and Sam Jeenes in the Pole Vault with 3.50m and 3.05m, and a wonderful PB in the triple jump for Isobel Burfitt of 9.78m.

Staying with the field, our throwers did well in the heat, with Jess Asquith and Charlotte Smith recording PBs in the Shot Put of 10.97m and 8.19m, William Richards-Baldwin winning the U18A with 16.73m, and George Iddon throwing an incredible 43.96m in the Discus, just 4cm off the national standard!

Our female javelin throwers were in great form too, with Eleah throwing the heavier weight and finishing 2nd in the U20 with 27.06m, Lucy dominating the U18A with a winning throw of 51.55m, and Jess Asquith securing the B win with a 2nd PB of 31.67m. After a long time out of training with injury, Fred Parry returned to throw 47.97 for the U18A men’s win.

And finally – 2 rather exciting races for the U18 4×100 relays! The U18 Women’s team of Molly, Imogen, Charlotte and Izzy ran 51.65 to win their race with a new fastest U18 time.

The men’s U18 team of  Leo, Oscar, Ollie Marchant and Caleb stormed to first position by almost 2 seconds with a new U18 AND U20 club record of 43.19!!

A fabulous end to a great day of athletics. Thank you as always to all the officials who supported and to Alex Beattie and Crispian Webb who managed the team on the day.
