Our multi events kickstarted their outdoor seasons over the weekend making the trip down south to compete in the Somerset Combined Events Championships.
After a breakout 2025 Caleb Green continued to impress, winning the U18 men’s decathlon with a massive 7041 points. The score is well above the qualifying mark for the European U18 championships and places him 3rd in the early season world rankings. On the way to achieving this Caleb achieved 4 PBs beginning with the 100m where he ran 11.01. He then added to his long jump best with 6.95 and threw a shot put PB of 14.08. In the high jump he equalled his best ever effort with 1.80 and wrapped up a successful first day with 51.86 in the 400m. On day two he started with a strong 14.30 in the 110m hurdles, threw 35.28 in the discus and added 20cm to his PB in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.40. Finally he concluded the competition with 45.34 in the javelin and 4:38.63 in the 1500m.
Isla McRitchie competed in the junior girls pentathlon finishing 3rd with 2313. Her debut in the 80m hurdles resulted in a superb time of 13.67. She threw a shot put PB of 7.14 and cleared a best of 1.44 in the high jump. In the long jump Isla cleared 4 metres for the first time with a PB of 4.03 and then concluded the competition with 2:46.51 in the 800m.
After a recent injury Oliver Belbeck was courageous to get straight back to competing. He finished 5th in the U20 decathlon with a score of 4459. Despite any extra nerves he may have been feeling he put together 10 strong events and even achieved PBs in the shot put and discus with bests of 1015 and 27.86 respectively. Bonnie Shirlaw took 2nd in the Inter Girls heptathlon on her debut in the event with an overall score of 3682. Along the way Bonnie achieved PBs in the high jump (1.41) and shot put (8.47) and debuted in the 80m hurdles (13.09), 200m (27.8) and javelin (24.91). She also produced strong performances in the long jump and 800m with 4.47 and 2:36.76.
Competing in the Octathlon Samuel Jeenes produced 5 PBs and an overall points score of 3745 for 9th place. The first day was a clean sweep of bests with 5.43 in the long jump, 29.48 in the discus, 29.70 in the javelin and 56.02 in the 400m. He kicked off day 2 with 18.38 in the 110m hurdles before clearing a high jump PB of 1.74. He rounded off a tough weekend with 9.27 in the shot put and 5:17.25 in the 1500m.
