English Schools 2025

Rachel See July 13, 2025

One Gold, One Championships Record, Two Bronzes, Two Club Records and a pile of PBs – our athletes definitely impressed at the English Schools Championships. The biggest and most competitive event of our young athletes season and our athletes rose to the occasion.

Hugo Bucher continued his impressive form launching the javelin out to a huge 69.89! He added over 3.5 metres to his PB and Club Record and secured himself English Schools Gold with a new Championship Record. He now places 2nd on the UK U15 all time list and is within a metre of that top spot. The competition proved extra special for the club with two harriers making the podium thanks to a big PB from Theo Nock. Theo threw 53.34 to win a well deserved Bronze. The javelin proved to be a very strong event for the club with Charlie Mason also throwing well to finish in 4th thanks to a PB of 57.50. Our fourth thrower competing was junior Zephie Turbard who finishe 12th in the discus with 23.70.

Isla Pain added an English Schools Bronze to her collection with a PB equalling clearance of 1.75 in the Senior Girls High Jump. The event was very closely fought requiring Isla to have to keep her nerve throughout. In the end three girls all had a best 1.75 and Isla secured Bronze on countback.

The second club record of the weekend came from Rosie Atkins in the Junior 800m. Rosie had already lowered the record earlier this year but smashed through it on Saturday running 2:15.95! A highly competitive race saw Rosie finish 5th in her heat. Eleanor Thomson also ran well in the following heat finishin in 2:24.42. Sam Wilson was our only other distance runner. He competed in the Senior 3000m, the heat made it a very tough race and he did well to finish 13th in his heat in 9:17.75.

Oliver Belbeck was one of our first athletes who took to the track, experienced at this level of competition he set a strong example for the rest of the team. Ollie competed in the 110m hurdles finishing 6th in his hear in 15.57, just 0.04 behind his PB. Isla Harvey raced in the junior 75m hurdles at her first English Schools, taking away a wealth of experience she finished 8th in her heat in 12.82.

William Robinson and Aidan John competed in the Junior and Inter 100m respectively. William finished 7th in his heat in 11.82 and Aidan was 5th in his in 11.19. Alicia Taylor smashed her PB in the junior 200m with a superb time of 25.61 for 4th in her heat and Oliver Marchant was just 0.02 outside his best with 22.82 for 7th in the inter 200m heats.
